Now Pouring: Maven's Summer Cocktails

The first sip of a fruity drink on a sunny day is one of our favorite simple pleasures. Summer brings us fresh produce, long days to spend with friends, and nights warm enough to stargaze. Whether you’re spending your weekends lakeside in the woods or in the skyline on a rooftop, we’ve got a cocktail for every occasion.

Here’s a few of our go-to cocktails that feature in-season ingredients  with a special Maven twist. Each one is easy, fresh, and guaranteed to impress.

For an outdoor dinner party: Cucumber Strawberry Basil Spritz

To start, make a strawberry syrup. Making this once will allow you to easily have on hand for future rounds of this cocktail, so don’t let this scare you away! Boil one part water and one part sugar with strawberries, and let simmer for 15 minutes. Strain and cool.

Add the following to a cocktail shaker:

2oz gin

1 oz strawberry syrup

1 oz fresh lime juice (it has to be fresh--makes all the difference!)

Handful of fresh basil

Muddle lightly and shake with ice

Strain into a glass (add an oversized ice cube if you’d like) and top with cucumber tonic water. Garnish with a strawberry and basil leaf!

For brunch with the girls: Tequila Mimosa

2oz chilled tequila

½ lime freshly juiced

1oz agave syrup

Chilled prosecco

A splash of grapefruit juice to top

Pour tequila, lime juice, and agave into a wine glass. Fill almost full with prosecco, and finish with a splash (or two!) of grapefruit juice. Garnish with a lime!

For the cabin: Northwoods Sazerac

A special thanks to our local Tattersall Distillery for this recipe!

2 ½ oz rye whiskey

½ oz maple syrup

½ oz water

8 dashes of bitters

Combine and serve over ice, or even in a coffee mug if that’s all you’ve got in the cabin!

For sipping poolside: Cherry Moscow Mule

A handful of pitted cherries

1 ½ oz vodka

½ oz freshly squeezed lime juice

6oz (ish) of ginger beer

To start, muddle the cherries at the bottom of your glass or mule mug. Add ice, and pour over lime juice and vodka. Top with ginger beer and garnish with a lime. Voila!
