Some variation with handwoven fabrics and small imperfections that come with handmade goods is considered acceptable.
To create the simple yet striking design, artisans employ ancient tie techniques. Sections of the fabric are tightly tied with thread to create numerous dots before dipping into vats of dye. The tied knots are then opened, forming a delightful pattern of dots against the background. It’s an enduring family trade - the men do the dyeing while the women painstakingly tie each pin-head sized dot.
